STEM / DESIGN & TECHNOLOGY

Bob taught for 29 years and before leaving teaching headed a large Design and Technology faculty. From teaching he became a senior lecturer in the education faculty at Sunderland University. Following this Bob was appointed to the Mid Glamorgan Advisory Service. After local government reorganisation, the Advisory Service became the Education and School Improvement Service (ESIS) serving Bridgend, Caerphilly, Merthyr Tydfil and RCT local education authorities. During his time with ESIS he arranged in-service training for teachers, monitored standards in schools and took part in ESTYN inspections.
Bob has considerable experience of organising and running in-service courses for teachers at both primary and secondary level. For primary level provision he has often delivered in-school sessions for teachers to observe. He is particularly interested in helping teachers in primary schools to deliver the more challenging parts of the AOLE for Science and Technology including introducing CAD and CAM and computer control. He has delivered training sessions for both ESTYN and OFSTED inspectors on judging standards in the use of CAD and CAM in schools.
Bob has received the DATA award for Outstanding Contribution to Design and Technology. He has also been recognised for managing a Technology Enhancement Programme Fellowship Centre and been a tutor on OHMCI primary design and technology courses in Bangor and Cardiff.
He was very pleased to be made a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in the Queen’s 2020 Birthday Honours List for services to science.
